A message from DC Attorney General Karl Racine:

As Attorney General of the District of Columbia it is my honor and privilege to enthusiastically endorse Janeese Lewis George as the next DC Councilmember for Ward 4.

I first met Janeese when she was a member of the Attorney General’s Juvenile Section. As an Assistant Attorney General Janeese embodied an innovative and forward-thinking approach to violence interruption and crime reduction. Janeese exercised her keen judgement to use evidence-based approaches, such as restorative justice and diversion. In addition to her exemplary work on individual cases, Janeese also served on our Human Trafficking Task Force and was an ambassador in “I Belong Here,” our truancy reduction program that has increased school attendance among our youth and promoted both public safety and promising futures for tomorrow’s leaders.

Janeese also believes that getting corruption out of politics is one of the most crucial issues facing our democracy, and I agree. This is among the reasons why I have sued the Trump administration for conflicts of interest and why I will soon launch a Public Corruption Division in the Office of the Attorney General. Ending public corruption is also why Janeese is not accepting donations from any corporations. Electing leaders such as Janeese who are not bought by big donors is an essential part of reducing corruption in government and Janeese’s refusal to accept donations from corporations commendably demonstrates that she practices what she preaches.

Janeese’s excellent work in the Office of the Attorney General demonstrated that she fully understood that a broad understanding of the context of injustice is essential to doing what is right. Since leaving the Office of the Attorney General Janeese has shown that she is a leader who is unafraid to do what is right for all of DC’s residents and communities, even in the face of entrenched corruption currently plaguing our Council. Janeese will bring her tremendous skills and insights to the role of Councilmember and DC will be richer for it. These are among the most important reasons I am incredibly proud to endorse her. Janeese has my full support and I hope you will join me in the effort to elect her to the DC Council.

Right now our Council doesn’t have anyone with a public safety background and it would help our ability to make decisions on these critical issues and conduct oversight to have someone with Janeese’s background. She has balanced tough issues in law enforcement during her career and those skills would be very helpful to the people of Ward 4 and the District of Columbia.

Janeese is relentlessly hardworking, smart, she cares about constituent services, and most importantly she’s independent. Ward 4 deserves a smart, independent councilmember and Janeese Lewis George is the person for the job. Join me in supporting her today.

Paid for by the Committee to Elect Janeese Lewis George, PO Box 56667, Washington, DC 20040, Latifa Lyles, Treasurer. A copy of our report is filed with the Director of Campaign Finance of the District of Columbia Board of Elections.
